What next........................

We have decided to build a 3 metre extension onto the back of the house for storage purposes. When we move from a larger home to a small home I am going to need space to keep things like my sewing bits and pieces etc etc. The plans are currently in at council so hopefully we will be able to begin soon.

Out with the old..........................

The old tanks needed to be moved so that they can make room for our yacht to fit. So we rolled them out behind the remaining shed and set them up to collect our recycled water in the future.

Tanks arrive

Here they are. They hold 36,000 litres of water. Unfortunately, we received the most rain our area has experienced forever the month BEFORE the tanks went in. Bummer hey!

Water tanks....................

There were 2 old corrugated water tanks in reasonable condition but too small for our future household needs so we decided to buy 3 large poly tanks. We had to dig out for them and before the tanks arrived there was a heap of rain so we ended up with a swimming hole. We had already planted some Coffin Bay Gums along the fenceline so that they will grow behind the tanks and create some privacy as the neighbours can look right into the back yard.

Inside.......................

The windows where covered in vertical blinds and they always remind me of office buildings so they had to be replaced. I made new curtains which give the house a warm homely feel.

The backyard ...................................

The backyard was very basic but shows lots of potential. The old shed there was removed 4 weeks after we took possession. We saved all the iron so we can recycle it for our raised garden beds.

Now this is the view that we wanted to see.

Its ours........................

Well now it was ours and as soon as we got there we discovered the mini-orb arrund the deck just had to go as it was blocking the view.

The story begins..............................

Late last year my mother died and it made me think about my future. Where will we live? How will we manage? Being a person that has lived life without thought of the future, I had no superannuation and the thought of managing on the pension kinda freaked me out. My inheritance from mum made me think of the options.

We (husband and I) currently live in a beautiful hexangonal home with extensive ornamental gardens, overlooking a river with sensational views, complete with indoor heated pool. We would not be able to afford to live here when retired as the power bill is $3000+ per year due to running the pool. I began to think about using my inheritance from mum to invest in a small house. I spent last December thinking about what I want to do when retired and we came up with 4 criteria:

1. The house had to be small and fairly easily maintained.
2. I HAD to have water views. (after all I am a Pisces)
3. I needed a large expanse of sheltered waters to sail my yacht and catch some fish.
4. I needed a space to grow vegetables.

I scoured the internet and came up with one house at Primrose that kept calling me. I went to investigate and found it perfect for my needs. I purchased it, then began making plans.
